Find out moreWith the sleigh bells ringing in the distance and the air becoming crisper, we all know the end of term is just around the corner, so we thought this would be a great time to provide a round-up from our Autumn term training! During the past three months, we have delivered more than 45 ‘Delivering Catch Up®’ training courses (including online courses in the UK and overseas!). We were also very excited to include some pilot one-day courses in this total – which were a great success! With all of these combined, we welcomed over 500 attendees to the Catch Up® Community. In addition, we have, of course, continued to offer our popular Catch Up® information session webinars, and our annual Review and Refresh sessions – it has been a busy term!
Our Accredited Trainers were pleased to visit some of our Regional Training Centres, as well as several schools and other venues across the UK. We travelled far and wide to deliver the face-to-face training, with courses taking place in Northamptonshire, South Lanarkshire, Gloucestershire, Norfolk, London, Manchester, Nottinghamshire, Leeds, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Liverpool, Guildford, South Wales, Suffolk, Eastleigh and North Lanarkshire!
Some of our face-to-face courses were delivered this term in our brand new, one-day format! This is a very exciting development for Catch Up® and has come about following research after feedback from you, our Catch Up® Community. You told us how valuable you found the Catch Up® training, but that three-half days were often difficult to accommodate in the busy school week. We listened, and explored the possibility of restructuring the training into a single day. After consultation with some of the interventions’ co-creators and the Catch Up® Accredited Trainers, we were really pleased to be able to create a version of the training to trial.
We were very grateful that some schools were willing to host us to pilot the courses, and were really pleased with the results! The one-day format worked well, with attendees reporting that they found the flow of the day supportive in understanding the interventions, and that they felt ready to deliver with the learners! Music to our ears! Feedback from our one-day trainees included:
‘A good balance of input and active tasks’
‘All on the course were left inspired and eager to start our Catch Up® journey’
‘I can’t wait to get started’
From January 2020, we will be rolling out this new one-day format for both Catch Up® Literacy and Catch Up® Numeracy at our Regional Training Centres and for any schools wishing to organise their own courses. Please see the Catch Up website for more details or contact us at any time!
During the Autumn term, we were also very happy to welcome trainees via our online training courses, which ran for UK schools and those based overseas.
One of our Accredited Trainers, Clare Manghan, was keen to share her experiences of delivering the Catch Up® Literacy online course with us. She said, “After many years of delivering face-to-face training, the prospect of also delivering in an online format was both exciting and daunting! I was interested to discover how the system worked, and how the interaction with trainees could be achieved.”
Clare went on to undertake our ‘trainer training’ process for the online delivery and soon found her feet! She told us, “The company who ‘host’ our online courses are incredibly supportive and helpful to both the trainer and the attendees. As the training occurs ‘live’ over the internet, it is so reassuring to have their team monitoring the course to ensure all is running smoothly from an IT perspective. The actual course itself works extremely well online, with plenty of opportunity for attendees to feed back, comment and ask questions via chat windows. Trainees can interact with each other via these same chat windows if they wish, and the evaluation comments have been very positive.”
Feedback from our online courses this term has included the following comments:
‘I felt like I learnt a lot and am excited to start working with the students’
‘Excellent course – lots of practical examples’
‘Really clear training’
‘This was the first online training course I have done, and I wasn't sure how it would work, but I found it very effective’
‘Clear and easy to follow’
‘Brilliant training’
