21st June 2022 - Training round-up, Spring 2022

Time is flying by for all of us this year, so we would like to take a breath and look back at the achievements of our Catch Up® Community so far!

During the first four months of 2022, we delivered over 30 ‘Delivering Catch Up®’ online training courses, welcoming more than 370 attendees to the Catch Up® Community. In addition, we have, of course, continued to run our popular Catch Up® information session webinars and have been very pleased to offer Review and Refresh sessions for those who have been delivering a Catch Up® intervention with learners.

The online courses are as popular as ever, and we have enjoyed getting to know trainees from across the UK, and internationally! It is always so interesting to work with such a diverse group of people, all working towards the same goal: – improving the achievement of learners who find literacy or numeracy difficult.

Now restrictions have been fully reviewed, our Catch Up® Accredited Trainers have welcomed the opportunity to deliver training in-person! Schools who preferred a face-to-face delivery have been in touch and arranged for one of our team to go to them, to train a group of staff. We have been pleased to facilitate this offering at schools and settings across the UK.

Pete Lane, one of our dedicated trainers, who delivers both Catch Up® Literacy and Catch Up® Numeracy courses, has been very busy delivering online, and face-to-face, training sessions.

Pete told us, “I absolutely love delivering Catch Up intervention training. I can lay out the proven structure for the trainees, and because I personally know it works, can deliver it with passion. If I can share that passion and belief through the training, I know it can make a difference to the learners that the trainees are working with”.

Pete has been pleased to train staff from a variety of schools in many roles, including TAs, teachers, and senior leaders. He told us, “I enjoy hearing the ‘light bulb’ moments, when a trainee sees the relevance of an aspect to their own situation, or how a particular approach can support a specific learner they are thinking of”. He went on, “It is a joy to hear how trainees from the same school support each other…this allows me, as the trainer, to learn about the needs of the learners and address specific questions”.

Pete was keen to share some of the discussions from his courses, particularly arising from the tasks completed as part of the training. He told us how one trainee commented on the high quality of the Catch Up® Numeracy resources provided, and how they will ‘save us so much time’. Another trainee shared the impact on a learner when starting Catch Up® Literacy – ‘I have never seen them smile before when reading’.

Pete summed up his experience as a Catch Up® Accredited trainer for us. “When the trainees demonstrate their enthusiasm to start working on the intervention, it makes this job very worthwhile”.

We always welcome feedback and suggestions from our Catch Up® Community and are proud to read the positive responses for our courses. This year has been no different, and it has been reassuring to receive such rave reviews.

‘I feel well equipped to deliver the intervention’

‘One of the best courses I have attended’

‘Great course, great trainer’

‘The resources are fabulous’

‘It is obvious how this will have a positive impact on the children’
