Following the completion of our successful 3-year action research project to consider if Catch Up® Literacy and Catch Up® Numeracy could be used to support younger learners who are showing early signs of struggling, we are excited to report that the answer is yes!
The final project summary report states, ‘There is evidence that the intervention support resulting from the Catch Up Literacy and Catch Up Numeracy training and resource package, when supplemented by FAQ guidance for additional ‘younger learners’ (older 5 year olds) does have a positive impact on the attainment and progress of these younger learners in literacy and numeracy’. (Please read the full report here).
We are very pleased to let you know that these additional resources, guidance and FAQs are now available in your user accounts.
As you know, the Catch Up® interventions have previously been used extensively with children aged 6 to 14 years. Now this new research has enabled us to develop guidance on how to successfully use Catch Up® Literacy and Catch Up® Numeracy with struggling learners younger than 6 years, specifically older 5-year-olds.
It provides an opportunity to support closing a gap even earlier for these learners! The interventions and processes remain the same! The guidance and supporting documents help you to target the aspects which are most relevant for a younger learner.
Where is the new guidance?
Within the Resources section of your online user account you will find a new tab – ‘Younger learners’.
Within this new tab (both for Catch Up® Literacy and Catch Up® Numeracy) you will find a variety of documents to support your work with older 5-year-olds who are showing signs of struggling.
