Intervention: Catch Up® Numeracy and Catch Up® Literacy
Background experience: I have been a primary school teacher since 1992, with various roles including Science Coordinator, Middle Leader and, more recently, Intervention Teacher and Catch Up® Coordinator. I have also worked on the Family Numeracy and Family Literacy Projects, promoting literacy and numeracy skills with families and children from Nursery age throughout the Primary age range.
How long have you been delivering Catch Up® training?
I became a Catch Up® Accredited Trainer (CUAT) in March 2019.
What’s been your greatest success as a Catch Up® trainer?
Completing my training alongside very supportive and excellent CUAT trainers, and seeing the trainees leave the sessions with such great enthusiasm to get started delivering the intervention.
What do you like best about Catch Up® training?
The impact it has on the trainees and their eagerness to get started in delivering the intervention – in particular, supporting the trainees in the transition from uncertainty on Day 1 to confident adults eager to support struggling learners with Catch Up® by Day 3.
What would be your Catch Up® top tip/advice?
Take time to set up the intervention well and then keep to the way you were trained - don’t overcomplicate things.
Give one interesting fact about yourself that might surprise people.
My degree was in Applied Biology and when I graduated I became a Parasitologist and carried out research before I retrained as a primary school teacher.
