Working with parents – bringing school and home learning together

Working with parents leaflet
Our bespoke ‘Catch Up® Literacy – Supporting Reading’ training package is also ideal for parents who wish to support their child at home, with reading.

This training package can be booked by schools and through Parent Teacher Associations, to enable the parents in their school communities to support how their child tackles a text, builds their ability to recognise and de-code words and develop their understanding of what they have read or has been read to them.

We promote a process of ‘working together’ which includes modelling by the adult and discussion of the text.
It is an ideal way of bringing school and home learning together.

The package includes:

  • Interactive, 3-hour online training course via live webinar

  • Training pack of key documents

  • Advice on reading books

  • Support after training via drop in meetings, email or phone
There are practical activities throughout the training, examples including video clips and opportunities to engage with the trainer and ask questions via chat windows.

You can find more information about the contents of the training session here.

Schools or Parent Teacher Associations can contact us to discuss the logistics and costs of arranging training for parents.

In addition, we do have a variety of parent and carer resources available, including guidance leaflets, which can be accessed through a password protected user account. Schools and other settings, that have staff who have attended training for either Catch Up® Literacy or Catch Up® Numeracy, can apply for access to these resources for any parent they feel would benefit.
